  • HNK_FilozofskiThe Croatian “Philosophy Theater” introduced Eva Illouz, the famous French/Israeli “Sociologist of Love” at The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, on 13 February, 2016. Illouz critisizes the consumerism in emotional life, as well as other fake values. Although the topic of the interview was mostly philosophical, not only sociological and interviewer Srecko Horvat has asked a lot of important questions, unfortunatelly Illouz didn’t point to a crucial, deeper interaction between the two mature persons or to the extremely rare Divine approach to Life, mostly if single, with no romantic utopia.

While first visiting Croatia, the Croatian Planetopija published two of her books: Cold Intimacy: How do we create an emotional capitalismandHard-core romance: Fifty Shades of Grey, bestsellers and society.

Eva Illouz was born in Morocco, and moved to France at the age of ten. She received a BA in sociology, communication and literature in Paris, an MA in literature at Paris X, an MA in communication from the Hebrew University, and received her PhD in communications and cultural studies at the Annenberg School for Communication of the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. She delivered the 2004 Adorno lectures at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, and in 2009, she was chosen by the German leading newspaper Die Zeit as one of the 12 thinkers most likely to “change the thought of tomorrow.”

HNKA new project of “The Croatian National Theater” (HNK)- “The Philosophy Theater”, which was organized and moderated by Srecko Horvat, one of the leading Croatian philosophers of younger generation, has been presented at “The Theater Night”, on 15th November. The first guest ofPhilosophy Theater” was Julia Kristeva, a Bulgarian-French leftist philosopher, poststructuralist, literary critic, psychoanalyst, sociologist, feminist, and, most recently, novelist, who has lived in France since the mid-1960s. She is now a Professor at the University Paris Diderot. Horvat plans the collaboration with famous philosopher Slavoj Zizek as well.

Nov. 15, the premiere of a Kristeva’s play “Therese my love” was performed Julia Kristeva à Paris en 2008.jpgby an actress Alma Prica and  later followed by the discussion about her leftist work, psychoanalysis, melancholy and love.

A quartermaster Dubravka Vrgoc was very happy to announce the beggining of this project. Horvat plans the collaboration with famous philosopher Slavoj Zizek as well: “It is a great honor to be with the world’s leading philosopher in the National Theatre, Slavoj Zizek, precisely for the first time Zizek will try his hand as a playwright, with its own version of “Antigone”. Horvat adds that they don’t know who will be the director of the play but the whole idea of “Philosophy Theater” can be seen as a potential for changing the consciousness of people.

“Sarter used to come to Croatia as well, it is necessary to continue this tradition! Between philosophy and theater connection has always existed, but it is recently lost and it should be returned. Our theater should deepen the relationship between philosophy and theater, concluded Horvat. ”
