The conference on audience development will be on 15-17 October by an exchange of good practices among past and future European Capitals of Culture, taking place at the same venue, and at which the Commission will also present its proposal for the future of the European Capitals of Culture beyond 2020.
In parallel, the Education, Audiovisual and Cultural Executive Agency is holding on 15 October a Kick-Off meeting specifically for 350 new beneficiaries of the Culture Programme.
The Culture Programme of the European Commission helps finance an array of initiatives to enhance the vitality of Europe’s cultural sector. It enables hundreds of organisations and thousands of artists and cultural professionals to meet, exchange practice, learn from each other, create together and tour and perform in different European countries. Through performances, websites and other tools the projects reach millions of individuals across the continent. Furthermore, every year the European Capitals of Culture put the spotlight on a couple of European cities, giving them a chance to shine on the European stage for 12 months and to regenerate themselves through culture.
The European Commission wants these activities to reach bigger and wider audiences. It is to this end that it is holding a conference on 16-17 October in Brussels which will provide inspirational examples of audience development by cultural organisations and foster European exchange of practice on audience development strategies.
